This assignment tasked me with creating postcards to send to potential applicants, fresh out of University. The goal was to advertise York's DESN program, adhering to York's standards while giving a unique feel to the program itself.
Utilizing a merge of calming ocean scenery, a strong tagline, and polygonal motif reminiscent of computer graphics and early video games, I created encapsulating postcards. These cards not only capture the welcoming sereneness of York and DESN program, but further aim to showcase how fun it is to design for and in the DESN program.
Each postcard was designed with print standards in mind. However, this assignment was done remotely due to COVID-19, disallowing me access to York University's design lab. Mockups for the poster campaign can be seen here.

Due to the overall ocean theming, it would follow that any gifts associated with the postcard campaign such theming as well. This lead to the idea of using a sea urchin—an unconventional animal for an unconventional program.

I aimed to target my personas primary interest in oceans with familiar scenery that would instill a sense of familiarity, while also toying with slight references to video games - using only an SNES cartridge-style format and a red bar motif from Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
This was done to instill a sense of warm, casual familiarity with the program to applicants just coming out of Highschool, making a big choice about their future.
These motifs, used consistently, keep each piece feeling similar overall, while having differing imagery in a way that feels consistent yet intriguing.
